Bronx Indigenous Futurisms

In honor of Indigenous People’s Day in October 2021, Bronx Indigenous Futurism was the first annual in-person gathering by the waters of Clason Point Park to collectively envision a future built on organic Indigenous Afro-Taino-Jibaro cultures in The Bronx.

In October 9, 2021, this event featured readings by poets and writers: CARIDAD DE LA LUZ, LONNIE HARRINGTON, MIGUEL SAGUE.

The gathering at Clason Point Park also showcased a plaque installed on a park bench in 2020 which states: “Here once stood a Siwanoy Village called SNAKAPINS “land by the two waters” installed by Pepatiรกn: Bronx Arts ColLABorative with Caridad De La Luz, The Bronx River Alliance and NYC Parks

This 2021 Bronx Indigenous Futurism event is a continuation of annual gatherings begun in 2018 and produced by Pepatiรกn: Bronx Arts ColLABoration in consultation with Caridad De La Luz to bring together international groups of Indigenous artists from across “Turtle Island”/North America to share work and knowledge in The Bronx.

This Oct 9, 2021 event was about honoring the past, celebrating the Indigenous present, and moving all into a future of abundance and creativity centered around Indigenous values of harmony and respect.
